In the sweetest way possible, Inter Milan advanced to the Champions League final in Istanbul by beating their city rival AC Milan 1-0 (3-0 on aggregate) in the second match.
The atmosphere was electrified before and during the match as San Siro prepared itself for a fiercely contested derby on the European stage.
But after 90 minutes it was Inter fans who made all the noise. As fireworks illuminate Milan’s skyline, fans cheered, “Istanbul! Istanbul! We’re going to Istanbul!”
“There is no limit for us now, we go to Istanbul and we will win! We believe!” An Inter fan told Euronews.
For Milan fans, the mood leaving the stadium was a disappointment. “We [AC Milan] played badly in both the first and second game,” a Milan fan told Euronews outside of San Siro.
Inter took a 2-0 lead from the first leg of the semi-final and Lautaro Martinez’s 74th minute goal ended Milan’s hopes for a comeback.
The Nerazzurri won the so-called “Euroderby” 3-0 on aggregate to advance to their first final since winning the Serie A, Coppa Italia and Champions League in one season under José Mourinho in 2010.
The final will be played on 10 June and Inter will play Real Madrid or Manchester City on Wednesday.
