Top tennis player Novak Djokovic has been denied entry to the United States, where he hopes to play in the upcoming Miami Open.
American authorities currently require anyone arriving in the country to show proof of vaccination for COVID-19, but it is possible to apply for an exemption.
In March, Djokovis applied for a vaccine exemption to play in the Indian Wells tournament, but this request was also denied by the US Homeland Security on the grounds that there was no vaccine.
However, the US is ending its COVID-19 emergency declaration on May 11, which will allow foreign air travelers to enter the country without the vaccine.
The 22-time Grand Slam champion’s final competitive match was a consecutive loss to Daniil Medvedev in the semi-finals of the Dubai Tennis Championships in early March.
