After two days of judo competition, the heavyweights took to the stage on the last day of the competition in Portugal.

But before things started at Odivelas, some lucky judo kids spent time with local judoka and local hero Barbara Timo.

In the men’s -90 kilo category, Mihael Zgank faced Klen Kristofer Kaljulaid. A tough contest leading to the Golden Score. Ultimately, the competition was decided by penalties with Turkey winning.

The medals were presented by Moshe Ponti, Board Member of the IJF Coordination Committee and President of the Israeli Judo Association.

“I’ve been downtown a little bit, so I love the country, I love the weather, and it makes me feel really good,” Gzank said.

Anna Monta Olek from Germany showed her superiority with -78 kilos and won her second Grand Prix gold medal. An excellent counter to Metka Lobnik’s attack allowed him to retain his top spot on the podium.

Referee Supervisor, Olympic and World Champion Tina Trstenjak was there to award the medals.

“I liked it very much, of course it’s very warm in the winter too, I love it very much and my coach is from here too, so it’s very special to win here,” Olek said.

-In the 100 kilo category, Matvey Kanikovskiy won the competition by scoring waza-ari in the last 20 seconds with his incredible technique.

His medal was presented by Mohammed Meridja, Director of Training and Coaching of the International Judo Federation.

Turkish Hilal Öztürk won her first Grand Prix gold medal in +78 kg; Her waza-ari win against Japan’s Miki Mukunoki was enough for the Portuguese Grand Prix title.

His medal was presented by Yury Alvear, Member of the International Judo Federation Sports Commission and Three-time World Champion.

Inal Tasoev, the reigning World Champion in +100kg, scored an impressive uchi-mata ippon in the first 30 seconds of the final.

The medals were presented by Sergiu Pina, President of the Portuguese Judo Federation.

The excitement ends in Portugal, but there will be more next week at the Paris Grand Prix.
